About the Symposium

The Sustainable Environment Symposium is a national/international scientific event organized to evaluate current developments in environmental sustainability on a scientific basis, contribute academically to policymaking, and strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation.

The symposium is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, and Kocaeli University.

This year’s symposium, whose main theme has been designated as “One Sea, One Future: From Marmara to COP31”, aims to address environmental challenges affecting the Sea of Marmara within the broader perspective of global climate change. Topics such as the protection of marine ecosystems, combating the climate crisis, sustainable development policies, environmental law, and biodiversity conservation will be comprehensively examined with the participation of distinguished academics, researchers, representatives of public institutions and organizations, and civil society stakeholders.

The symposium seeks to establish connections between environmental problems encountered at the local level and the global climate agenda, with particular emphasis on providing a scientific perspective to the COP31 process. In this context, policy recommendations developed with a focus on the Sea of Marmara are expected to contribute to both national and international environmental strategies.

Through scientific presentations, invited lectures, and panel sessions, the symposium serves as a distinguished platform that promotes knowledge sharing, provides an environment for high-quality academic discussion, and supports the vision of a sustainable future.
